Leprechaun in the Hood – Halloween Horror Month Movie Spectacular 2013 Day 9

Leprechaun in the Hood
While I’d been vaguely aware of their existence, I didn’t watch any of the Leprechaun movies until the start of this year when getting a Netlix subscription precipitated a descent into B-moviedom. The first three in the series were available and I quickly watched them all. During the summer I got hold of and watched Leprechaun 4: In Space, where Lieutenant Gruber from ‘Allo ‘Allo played a mad scientist and wore distressingly few pieces of clothing. These are terrible movies in the best possible way. Warwick Davis portrays the titular leprechaun with apparent glee, and the frequent ridiculousness is part of the fun.

So it’s no exaggeration to say that I was looking forward to watching the fifth Leprechaun movie, Leprechaun in the Hood. The fourth movie was my least favourite, with the science fiction elements verging on being so bad they weren’t even entertaining. In other words a return to present day was a promising start. And the movie kept delivering on that promise. I know absolutely nothing about rap or hip hop, but that part of it luckily turned out to be more back story than gimmick. The characters were decent and the movie was bad in the right ways. Overall this might be one of the more entertaining Leprechaun movies, if for no other reason than that it did something different and mostly managed to pull it off.

About Ted Dahlberg

I'm a stoic, a pessimist, a bookworm, a skeptic, and possibly other things which take more than one word to say.
