Re-Animator – Halloween Horror Month Movie Spectacular 2013 Day 14

Re-Animator
So we inevitably come to another Lovecraft adaptation, Re-Animator. In this case I use the word adaptation charitably. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, but Lovecraft certainly never wrote anything that could be described as horror comedy. This one isn’t for those with a weak stomach; the movie is generous in its use of blood and gore. Which isn’t usually my thing, but Jeffrey Combs’ performance makes it worth it. The title rather explains what the movie is about. A medical student (Combs) starts experimenting with bringing dead things back to life, with predictable results. The story is dark, the writing is clever and Combs is always a delight to see. Just don’t eat while you’re watching.

About Ted Dahlberg

I'm a stoic, a pessimist, a bookworm, a skeptic, and possibly other things which take more than one word to say.
